Friday Letters
2018/19
Dear __________________,
Next week is Spring Break so there is no school! Our next day of school will be Monday, March 25. This week was Report Card/Conferences. I should have either met with you and Mrs. Dearth or brought my report card home. If you want to meet with Mrs. Dearth, email her to set up a time. Sixteen people turned in their Technology Homework. :-( Love, __________________ read 300 minutes. X____________________________ Dear __________________,
There is no school on Monday due to Lincoln's Birthday. On Thursday, February 14, our class will have a small Valentine's Day party. Information about this came home yesterday. Mrs. Dearth is even MORE disappointed about Tech Homework this week. Only 7 students turned theirs in. I did/did not turn mine in. There are going to be many failing grades on report cards. In February, we have two Mondays off of school. There is no school on February 11 or February 18. Starting on February 19, we will have Assessment Week. We will have reading, writing and math assessments that week. Only 10 out of the 26 students in our class turned in their Technology Homework this week. I did/did not turn mine in. Next week, I will bring home information about our Valentine's Day party. Love, _________________ read 90 minutes this weekend. Dear _____________, Mrs. Dearth is disappointed in how few people are keeping up with their technology homework. Out of 24 students at school today, only 10 turned in their Technology Homework. This is concerning because students are not gaining the skills they will be expected to have in sixth grade. There are two Monday holidays in February. The 11th and the 18th. Right after that, we start our trimester assessments. It is important for me to be in school to prepare for these assessments. We need pennies made before 1984 for a science experiment. Mrs. Dearth would like to thank everyone for the lovely Christmas gifts. She enjoyed them all. Today is the first day everyone turned in their reading note. If we have four more of these days, Mrs. Dearth will bake us Perfect Tim's Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies. Once again, we are very low on pencils! If you can donate some, or just make sure I have some, it would help. Love, _________________ read 90 minutes this weekend. X____________________________________ December 20, 2018
Dear Families, We are officially halfway through your student’s fifth grade year. The time has flown by! I am so thankful to have such a wonderful class this year. It is also great to have such supportive families. Thank you for everything you do for your students, our class, and me. The Going Away/Thank You Party we held for Mr. Murray was a huge success. We had lots of food, the cards the students made for him were very touching, and we had a good time together. He was very appreciative. Thank you for all the donations. There were enough leftovers for us to enjoy a snack after lunch today. I have told your students that, as we move into the second half of fifth grade, I will be expecting more from them. They will be no longer learning how to be fifth graders, they will be learning how to succeed in middle school. This will start after Winter Break with their silent reading homework being bumped up to 30 minutes each night. I wish you and your families a wonderful holiday season and a healthy Happy 2019! ___________________________ read 320 minutes over Winter Break. Thank you to Riven's family for donating a dozen pencils this week. We can always use more pencils. Please remember we are having a small party to celebrate Mr. Murray on Wednesday. If you have signed up to bring something, you can bring it in the morning or drop it off in the office by 12:30. Mrs. Dearth is quite concerned with the number of students being benched for not returning their signed tests. I want families to be informed about how their student is doing, but I also need the tests for student portfolios. I need to talk to you about whether or not I am getting my signed tests turned in. It is all part of becoming more responsible and ready for middle school. There is school Monday-Thursday next week. Love, ______________ read 60 minutes. X_____________________ Dear ___________,
Thank you to Jet's family for the donation of four dozen pencils. We can always use pencils. Last week, we spent time making an art project for our tree on the Town Green. Our tree is sponsored by McCormick & Co. Homes and Loans. Mrs. Dearth is thrilled with how well our decorations turned out and hopes everyone gets a chance to see the tree. Yesterday was Mr. Murray's last day in our classroom. On December 19, after lunch, we are having a small party for him. More details will come home next week. The first day of Winter Break is Friday, December 21. It is important for me to be at school until that day. Important learning will be taking place. Love, _____________ read 60 minutes. Dear Families, I am typing the Friday Letter this week because there is so much information that I need you to have. First of all, I want to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving! I am very thankful for your wonderful children. I also appreciate the support I have received from all of you. Speaking of support, our class is low on Kleenex and needs more pencils. If you can donate either of these items, please send them in after Thanksgiving Break. Due to the unhealthy air caused by the smoke from the Butte County fire, conferences had to be rescheduled. This means that Monday, November 26 and Tuesday, November 27 are now Minimum Days. School will be dismissed at 2:05 both days. Attached to this letter is your student’s Technology Homework Sheet. This is a new, and important, piece of homework for your student. The assignment is explained on the sheet. One aspect of this work is teaching your student to keep track of a long term assignment. The paper is to be turned in each Friday morning. I will enter in my gradebook that they completed the homework, initial the paper and return it to them to turn in the following Friday. Please help your student set up a system for keeping this paper and completing the assignments. Unless your child is absent on the corresponding Friday, not turning in this paper will count as a zero in Technology for the week. Over Thanksgiving Break, the only homework is to read twenty minutes per day. Patti Dearth _____________________________________ read 200 minutes over Thanksgiving Break.
